'Spirit of the Lakes' Charter train at Marple Station - December 2015
West Coast Railway ran a charter on Sat 5 December 2015 from Skegness to Manchester for the Christmas markets. It passed through Marple at 10.40 top and tailed by 2 x class 57s.
While Marple has plenty of freight trains (Real Time Trains is a good place to look), steam or diesel charter trains are fairly rare at Marple as the routes to Manchester are congested with local trains and the Hope Valley has limited capacity. If you have any pictures or know of special trains coming through , let us know.

History of Marple Railways - new edition July 2015
The definitive guide to ‘Railways in Marple’ by Warwick Burton is being updated. It will be launched during the 150 celebrations in July 2015 with a talk and exhibition at the library.
It will be full of information of how trains came to Marple, our three stations (Rose Hill and Strines and Marple), and how the fortunes of railways in Marple and the wider area have changed over the years. Marple Station used to have four platforms and turntable for engines, and at one time you could catch a sleeper train to London or through train to Liverpool or Lowestoft!
